Employed to increase the efficiency of information flow across all departments for drawings, data, supply chain, fabrication & field installation for a childrens playground manufacturer in the UK
The Problem
A childrens playground manufacturer needs to ensure accurate information is available across all parts of the business. Only the designers understand the 3D model & drawings, but the resultant data needs to flow to non-technical departments across the company.
The Approach
Darbury understood where each of the isolated souces of data resides. The use of the 3D model, a visual, easy to understand format for technical & non-technical people was used in a 3D Viewer to aggregate the data. The user was taught to click on a 3D component to see the correct information.
- Design to supply chain purchasing through accurate Bill of Materials for each product.
- Purchasing to stock contol in the factory for a "just-in-time" delivery process using Sage 500.
- Factory component allocation from stock for each product.
- Quality control checking for each fabricated product against official drawings.
- Accurate drawings available for site installation including Installations Instructions.
The Outcome
People across the company now spend far less time searching or the right information. With well over 200 products in the catalogue, the right information is only a click away from the 3D Viewer. The site installation teams have access to the right drawings & are assured the right components are available. Less time is spent on tracking information before an installation leading to a more efficient & cheaper installation in the field.
Implementing the same system today would involve AI-enabled functions to manage stock control more efficiently. The ability to see "what if" scenarios of product sales on inventory & leading to a better negotiating stance with the vendors.
